  • Getting ready for my last semester of college at Virginia Tech. Go Hokies!
  • Partying a bit too much.
  • Dating a guy I thought I would marry. Ummm, that didn’t work out.
  • Playing sports like basketball and tennis.
  • Working at the Hokie Grill!

5 Things on my T0-Do List today:

  • Christmas shop
  • Clean my house
  • Get Christmas Cards done
  • Make puppy birthday cake
  • Go to dinner with parents

5 Things I would do if I were a millionaire:

  • Contribute money to DC’s Children’s Hospital for saving my life when I was 3
  • Buy a house on Aruba
  • Make sure that my parents, sister, grandparents and 3 best friends got a chunk of the pie
  • Pay off allllll my debt!
  • Start my own business

5 Things I’ll never wear again (or have never worn):

  • a Mumu
  • stilettos (I’m with Erin on this one)
  • pants with houses on them (don’t ask…)
  • legwarmers

Which psychic power would you most like to possess? Just one? Hmmmm, I guess I would like to be able to move things with my mind which I guess would be psychokinesis.

2. If you could see the future, what would you like to see? Generally speaking, I’d only want to see the good things for the future. But if I were burdened with that ability and good things were out of the question, I would want to be able to help solve murders.

3. Imagine you woke up one day and could shapeshift – what would you shift into? I’m allergic to cats, but I think it would be cool to be a panther, a leopard or a tiger.

4. What kind of a paranormal creature would you invite over for dinner if there were no limits on who you could ask? I think I would want to talk with a fairy and if a fairy wasn’t available then maybe a shapeshifter of some kind.

5. Which future innovation do you wish would hurry up and get here already? I’m a control freak so a lot of this “futuristic” stuff scares the beejebus out of me. But I think an autochef would be cool. I’d also love to see travel become a breeze. I want to jump through space and be in Aruba within the next five minutes.

Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror? I’m keeping Avitable’s answer here.  I enjoy all three in certain doses. I find fantasy to be the most obnoxious genre, and scifi can get old quickly, but when they’re good, they’re really good.   I hate books that have names with 3 times as many consonants as vowels, where I have to mentally make a character “Bill” or “Kate” so I don’t drive myself nuts pronouncing their names.

Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback? I like to read either mass markets or paperbacks, but I prefer my keepers to be in hardback.  Sometimes I’ll even go and buy a book club edition so I can have it in hardback.

Amazon or Brick and Mortar?  Both!  I work in a bookstore and I love to browse them.  But I love the convenience of Amazon.

Barnes & Noble or Borders? B&Ns are waaaaay better stores than Borders.  I’ve worked in both, trust me on this.

Hitchhiker or Discworld? I’ve never read Douglas Adams and I have no freakin’ clue what Discworld is.

Bookmark or Dogear? Bookmark! :fuming: OMG it drives me nuts when people deface a book.  But I will admit that when I am reading a stripped book that I am going to end up tossing anyway I sometimes dogear.

Asimov’s Science Fiction or Fantasy & Science Fiction? Neither.

Alphabetize by author, Alphabetize by title, or random? Again, Avi and I have the same answer.  Alphabetize by author, then by title among the same author. But if it’s a series then it is in order of the series.

Keep, Throw Away or Sell? If I love the book I keep it.  I usually loan out, give away or sell any books that I don’t want to read again.  I only throw away stripped books.  It’s sacrilege to throw away perfectly fine books!

Keep dust-jacket or toss it? Why would you throw it away? Unless you’re a fucking retard, that is.  Amen, Avi!

Read with dustjacket or remove it? I take them off while I’m reading the book because I want them to stay in pristine shape.

Short story or novel? Novels are my first love, but I won’t say no to a good short story.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket? Neither.  I own every Harry Potter but haven’t felt the need to read them and I have absolutely no inclination to buy Lemony Snicker books.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks? Chapter break if at all possible.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time?” Both!

Buy or Borrow? I prefer to buy so I can read them whenever I want.  I have a tbr bookcase with over 150 books in it.  Borrowing from the library feels confining to me.  But if I were on a tighter budget I’d borrow more.

Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation or Browse? Recommendation of good friends or by browsing.  I hardly ever read people’s reviews.  What do I care about a stranger’s opinion?  They could be an idiot for all I know.

Lewis or Tolkien? Lewis most definitely.  Tolkien is some hard crap to get through.

Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)? Doesn’t make a difference to me.

Tidy ending or Cliffhanger? Some cliffhangers are okay, but if you leave most of the resolution from the story hanging then you’re going to piss me off.

Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading? Any time is a good time to read.

Standalone or Series? Series are my faves because I love great characters that grow over time.

New or used? New!  I’ll buy used but I don’t like to do that often because I want the book as pristine as I can get it and if you buy used (especially on the internet) you have no idea what you are getting.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard? Sati by Christopher Pike.

Top 5 favorite genre books of all time? I don’t know if I can pick just 5 in 5 different genres.  But some of my all time faves are Pirate’s Wild Paradise by Kate Douglas, Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton, Ill Wind by Rachel Caine,  1st to Die by James Patterson, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott and Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery.

Favorite genre series? Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton — if you cut it off at Narcissus in Chains.

Currently Reading?   Destiny (Rogue Angel) by Alex Archer

1) The Book That Everybody Else Loved That You Thought Was Wank (AKA the most over-rated book you’ve read this year).

Black Ice by Anne Stuart. I thought the book was horrific and I’m a huge AS fan.

2) The Book That Made You Cry So Hard That You Had Big Gobs of Snot Running Attractively Down Your Chin (AkA the biggest tear jerker)?

Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner

3) The Book That Nearly Made You Pee Yourself With Mirth (AKA the funniest book you read this year)?

Size 12 is Not Fat by Meg Cabot

4) The Book That Made You Realise That Some Writers Should Never Get Published (AKA the worst book you read this year)?

Black Ice was the worst book that I had read this year, but I would never say that AS shouldn’t be published.

5) The Book That Made You Realise That Your Fave Auto-Buy Author Wasn’t On The Same Planet Anymore (AKA, Auto-buy author you finally binned after years of abuse)?

I had to agree with Karen about Patricia Cornwell’s Predator and here’s an extra one that broke my heart — Laurell K. Hamilton’s Danse Macabre. All I can say for these author’s is WTH?

6) The Book That Led To A Humongous Glom?

I had 2. One for the Money by Janet Evanovich and Ill Wind by Rachel Caine. Those are both phenomenal series that I am glad I stumbled onto!

7) The Book That Made You Realise That Not ALL Paranormals Are Crap (AKA the best paranormal you’ve read all year)?

Hmmm, I like paranormals! But I think the Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine was the best world building I’d seen in a long time.

8 ) The Book Cover That Made You Want to Shoot The Artist (AKA as the suckiest book cover of the year, please provide links.)

I can’t think of a specific one off the top of my head, but the e-book publishers come up with some doozies.

9) The Book That Made You Realise That Romance Isn’t The Same Old Same Old All the Time (AKA the most original romance book read this year)?

I honestly didn’t read anything that was ground breaking!
